You can't see anything except the flashlight that Heidi is holding, and the book Rob is reading out of. But it's really good. It was his part of the talk on "Healing Prayer" that Heidi and he spoke on. Rob is explaining that he didn't really think much of the Healing Prayer Workbook* that Heidi uses with women... until he went through it himself just a few hours earlier on the day of this clip.

*from the People Resources Team of The Navigators: peopleresources@navigators.org (719) 594-2555

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3232977353420049258

Well, the embedded video doesn't seem to want to work, so you can click on the link above if you'd like to see it.

15 MPH

Here's another short clip... hope you can hear it okay. It's part of the beginning of Randy's talk at his house... actually there are two clips, but I missed a little in between. In the first, Randy introduces his talk:

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/get_player" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"width="320" height="266" bgcolor="#FFFFFF"flashvars="flvurl=http://v6.nonxt3.googlevideo.com/videoplayback?id%3Dd3b0c96e8fb23a7b%26itag%3D5%26app%3Dblogger%26ip%3D0.0.0.0%26ipbits%3D0%26expire%3D1331591144%26sparams%3Did,itag,ip,ipbits,expire%26signature%3D3242903B6AEF7E513B48DEAACC02B673FF1B0A54.2633FB066DB21995633526581C54FAC514BCE3F%26key%3Dck1&iurl=http://video.google.com/ThumbnailServer2?app%3Dblogger%26contentid%3Dd3b0c96e8fb23a7b%26offsetms%3D5000%26itag%3Dw160%26sigh%3DlWkI6pNCXXMEH3lFFgwjmyn5zL4&autoplay=0&ps=blogger"allowFullScreen="true" />

The part I missed in between is when Hal Denney says, "This is the 'Lower Room' discourse," which caused all the laughter at the beginning of the next clip. A little background: our youngest, Paul, was being a little distracting during Randy's talk on Monday night, and was not willing to sit in my lap or Weldon's when we tried... but when he walked past Jim Downing, he looked up and his eyes lit up like he'd seen his Grandpa! Jim picked Paul up and held him and played with him for a few minutes with his nametag (like he really needed one of those!).

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/get_player" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"width="320" height="266" bgcolor="#FFFFFF"flashvars="flvurl=http://v3.nonxt2.googlevideo.com/videoplayback?id%3Daa5c7466e26406e9%26itag%3D5%26app%3Dblogger%26ip%3D0.0.0.0%26ipbits%3D0%26expire%3D1331591144%26sparams%3Did,itag,ip,ipbits,expire%26signature%3D29A2583DB3E5D68925D15932F26DF080DFA18883.68EDEDBA4DDC8D3C706CB5CD1D106189D63C5B09%26key%3Dck1&iurl=http://video.google.com/ThumbnailServer2?app%3Dblogger%26contentid%3Daa5c7466e26406e9%26offsetms%3D5000%26itag%3Dw160%26sigh%3DU1O8XRKCgm_OqtC44Yo-x-Iob6k&autoplay=0&ps=blogger"allowFullScreen="true" />

More pictures and updates

I just read Cathy McConnel's blog where she wrote about her time at the reunion and thought I'd put the link here: http://cathyincambodia.blogspot.com/2008/08/wonderful-time.html

Reading her's, I was inspired to add a few more pictures of our time at the reunion. Critical thinkers know that and analyze ideas, concepts, or events by looking at them from many different perspectives. They discover what remains hidden to most people. Critical thinking can be taught by asking a person the right type of questions, questions that start deep thinking.

Teaching someone to think critically starts by asking them questions that are probing and purposeful. They are probing because they challenge the obvious and examine assumptions. Critical questions are purposeful in that there is a goal in mind—the discovery of truth. They are not questions for the sake of questions, they are questions for the sake of learning.

To help a person to think critically, whether in a Bible study, a conversation, or a teaching situation, learning the various types of questions is of great value. Each type of question produces a different type of thinking. The more types of questions a person knows how to ask, the better thinking he can induce in others.

Here are a few simple categories.

Defining
Defines the word or idea.
In your own words, what is _____?
Could you give me a simple definition of _____?
Based on our discussion/textbook, what is _____?

Describing
Provides details or personal impression.
Can you describe _____?
How would you tell another person about _____?
Could you draw a picture/graph/icon/cartoon of _____?

Analyzing
Separates information into components. If we think of ourselves as periods we learn something and then come to a stop. We learn no more. On the other hand, if we think of ourselves as commas, there is always more to come, we are constantly attempting to learn more.

Warning:
Learning is fatal to pride.
One of the most important phrases we can learn is "I don't know."
Learning is dangerous.
We may have to change ourselves and the habits that we are so used to.

Lifelong learners focus on three things:

1. Stop Yourself
God is a 3 mile an hour God.
Busyness is toxic to relationships both vertically and horizontally.
Illustration: Las Vegas is a city built on distractions.
There's no substitute for solitude and reflection.
Some things are never discovered at 60 miles an hour.
The fruit of the Spirit includes self-control. That means the ability to NOT do something as well as the ability to do something.
Illustration: Marilyn and I plan a retreat twice year to evaluate our lives, marriage, finances, etc.

2. Ask good questions
There are 3296 questions in the Bible, Jesus asks 225 questions.
We must ask ourselves why there are so many questions.
I can predict what a person will become by the questions that he or she asks himself, God, and others.
Voltaire said, ”Judge a man not by his answers but by his questions.”
Questioning is important because there is always something behind everything.
To stop asking questions is the slow death of learning.
I suggest you develop a list of effective questions and carry them around with you.
I have 12 questions that I can ask about almost any topic to learn much.

3. Write It Down
Consider how much we have all learned and forgotten.
We are stewards of the things that we discover.
Sanny used to say the shortest pencil was better than the longest memory.
Writing is important because it is a form of thinking, creates a historical record, gives us something to pray over specifically, allows us to see God's patterns, and helps us to learn by reflection. It is also the basis from which teach.

Application:
Learn how to stop yourself, ask good questions, and write things down.
One healthy way to do that is to form a learning community with like-hearted people, or at least get one learning partner.
In that way you'll begin to apply Proverbs 18:13.

Reunion - Day 3

Just thought I'd post a few pictures of the past couple of days. We really miss all of you who couldn't make it. Rob Gleghorn brought some videos and we watched a few minutes of the mime that Gary, Kathy, and Traci had done during the LDI years, and also watched a skit we had done at the Manor one night. Very funny to watch everyone and to see all the faces of those here, and those who couldn't make it... maybe we'll have to do another one (give me a couple of years to recover first!) Seriously... I can see it happening. And, also seriously, it has been so worth the effort of organizing everything. God did the amazing part by bringing those who were able to make it. May we all be encouraged to walk more closely to Him because of this time.

And may He bless all who were part of our lives during those years, whether they could come or not (or whether they even wanted to come or not). Otherwise, just bring snacks for yourselves.

General Information (this is from a sheet I received from Glen Eyrie and has some info that may be helpful, such as where to check in, a phone number you can be reached at during your stay, internet service, and that you should bring quarters if you want to do laundry!)

* Check-in: Guests will check-in at the Carriage House. Rooms are not guaranteed to be available until after 3 p.m. The Welcome Center is open 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. After 6:00 p.m., proceed to the Guardhouse through the main gate.

* Telephone usage: A credit card is required at check-in for phone activation. There is no charge for local and 800 calls, long distance calls are 35 cents per minute. Without the card on file the phone will not be turned on for outside calls, only facility calls. Guests without credit cards will be charged a fifty-dollar deposit which will be refunded upon departure if no phone calls are made.

* Computer laptop usage: Guests will not be charged for local access, long distance will be charged as above. To operate personal computers and access the Internet from the Castle or Big Horn, guests must unplug the cord from the back of the phone and plug it directly into their modem. Guests staying elsewhere on The Glen must plug their computer directly into the wall jack. (Although the phones are equipped with a data port, we only have the line capacity for one phone line per room).

* Emergency: Dial 7000. Do not dial 911. The attendant at the Guardhouse is trained to handle emergencies and has expert knowledge of the grounds in order to direct emergency officials.

* Gate Hours: Hours are 7:00 a.m. – 12:00 midnight Sunday through Saturday. Before or after these hours, to enter the gate, press #000 in the keypad. The attendant at the gatehouse will answer and verify that you are a Glen Guest, and open the gate for you. The gate will open outward toward incoming traffic. When exiting, drive slowly toward the gate and wait for it to open automatically.

* Meals: Unless otherwise specified, meals are served at the Castle in the King James Dining Room. Dietary request forms are available from your sponsoring conference host, for guests with specific medical, or allergy requirements. Prior notice is appreciated so that we may prepare adequately. It is up to each guest to assume responsibility for extreme allergy notification.

* On-site needs: Your on-site contact is the Concierge in the Castle at ext. 7401. After hours, this phone line is forwarded to the Guardhouse where the attendant will respond to your needs.

* Checkout: Checkout time is 10:00 a.m., even if guests are staying on the grounds past 10:00 a.m. Our system will automatically check out guests at this time for housekeeping purposes. For questions about charges, guests may talk with the Concierge, otherwise they may turn in keys at the Welcome Center or in the drop box outside the Guardhouse before leaving the grounds.

* To contact a guest by phone from an outside line, please call 1-800-944-GLEN or 719-634-0808. The fax number is 719-634-2012.
* Business needs, such as copies and faxes, may be handled at the Concierge Desk in the Castle. Office Hours are 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. Please call ext. 7407 for charges.
* Bookstore hours are posted in the Castle Foyer outside the Bookstore.
* A box for out-going mail is located in the Castle Foyer outside the office of the Concierge.
* Glen Eyrie prohibits smoking in our buildings and rock climbing.
* RV’s may have trouble crossing the narrow bridges and it is recommended that they be left in the parking lot of the Welcome Center.
* Dogs on leashes are permitted on the grounds and trails but are not permitted in any of our buildings and we request that owners assist in cleaning up after their pets.
* Extra towels, an ironing board and one iron are located in laundry rooms of each building. Washing machines and dryers operate with quarters.
* Guests are advised to lock their rooms and carry room keys at all times. Right now I'm spending about 5 minutes each day (doesn't SOUND like much, but it's hard to find it!) trying to get all the addresses together that I've received, and am PLANNING to send postcards to those I don't have e-mail addresses for. I'd like to put the final list of everyone I have info for on here eventually -- but don't hold your breath!

In between taking care of 4 kids and homeschooling and everything that goes with taking care of a household, I won't guarantee that this will be updated often, but I thought it would be a good place to start.

Please pray for preparations for the reunion and for it to be a fun and encouraging time for everyone who can come -- and maybe for those who don't, if I can get this site set up with enough pictures and stories!
